God’s Will And Certainty

Discovering the Answer: What Does God Want from Us?

God's will. What does God want from us?

How to Know God’s Will: A Biblical Guide to Discernment

One of the biggest questions every devoted Christian asks is, “Is this God’s will? Is this what God wants me to do?”

As a sincere believer, you likely pray over most—if not all—of your decisions, seeking divine guidance.

The Bible teaches that God has a purpose for your life, designed before the foundation of the world (2 Timothy 1:9). You deeply desire to walk in His plans because you know that is the best way to live and the key to making a lasting impact.

There are many ways to seek God’s will, but one of the most effective is to follow what the Bible clearly states as His will for every believer. By practicing this simple yet transformative biblical principle, you position yourself to discern God’s direction more clearly in other areas of life.

God’s Will for You: Rejoice, Pray, and Give Thanks

The Bible explicitly reveals God’s will for every believer:

“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for THIS IS THE WILL OF GOD IN CHRIST JESUS FOR YOU.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16–18)

Living a lifestyle of joy, continual prayer, and gratitude aligns you with God’s divine purpose. This posture of the heart:

  • Opens your soul to God’s presence and guidance.

  • Helps you connect practically to the spiritual blessings already given in Christ (Ephesians 1:3).

  • Prepares your mind and heart to discern God’s will in decisions not explicitly outlined in Scripture.

Even a Small Effort Brings Great Spiritual Growth

No one can maintain this mindset perfectly. Some days, I find myself living in this truth only 1% to 5% of the time, and on my best days, I may reach 70% to 80%. But even 1% is infinitely better than 0%.

The Psalmist declares, “One day in Your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere.” (Psalm 84:10)

The same applies to rejoicing, praying, and giving thanks—even a little bit can radically transform your spiritual walk. When I intentionally practice these three principles, even when I don’t feel like it, I experience a powerful connection with God that renews my soul.

how do you know that god is speaking to you

One of the first messages you likely heard about God was “God loves you.” But the depth of this truth is unfathomable.

  • To receive eternal life, we believe and experience God’s love.

  • We come from a world system based on conditional love, but God’s love is unconditional and transformative.

  • The Holy Spirit continually renews our minds, helping us grasp new dimensions of His love (Ephesians 3:16–19).

God’s love is beyond human comprehension, but He invites us on a journey to experience deeper levels of His healing, empowering, and freeing love.

Living in God’s Will Even in Difficult Times

Life is not without pain, sorrow, and suffering. The Bible acknowledges that there are times to mourn (Ecclesiastes 3:4), and as the body of Christ, we are called to mourn with those who mourn (Romans 12:15).

Yet, even in difficult seasons, we can still choose to rejoice, pray, and give thanks. This is not about ignoring pain but about anchoring our hearts in God’s eternal truth.

Connecting to the Life-Giving Flow of the Holy Spirit

By embracing joy, prayer, and gratitude, we open our souls to the river of life flowing from God’s throne (Revelation 22:1, John 7:37–38). This daily practice deepens our connection with the Holy Spirit, allowing His power to flow through us and impact others.

I encourage you—even on a 1% day—press into God’s will. Rejoicing in Him, praying continually, and giving thanks in all circumstances releases more of His love and life into you and through you.

This is God’s will for you—today, tomorrow, and always.

My goal is to help busy believers experience God more deeply, grow consistently—both spiritually and personally—and confidently live out their unique purpose.
